We are having a temporary glitch in our layout.
The right hand menu is for some reason showing up at the bottom left of this page.
We are trying to get this fixed as quickly as we can and are sorry for the inconvenience.

From a Western Voices reader: Behavior like these raids is symptomatic of the politicization and militarization of the police, largely because of the infiltration of leadership echelons by officials who have been co-opted by special interest groups like the ADL, SPLC and others, offering free ideological “training” to departments nationwide in order to transform our officers into political police. These changes come as America grapples with a widespread move towards draconianism, which takes advantage of the justified fears of the public after 911. Among these are a slew of “hate laws,” as well as a horrific new federal law meant to criminalize thought.
Targeting people and groups for their opinions is also lucrative, allowing department chiefs to tap into “homeland security” and other slush funds that have little if anything to do with fighting crime, but a lot to do with policing opinions. We have all seen the results since 911: shaven headed cops in paramilitary jumpsuits and a growing number of instances of police abuse. This aggressive, politically charged climate allows corrupt and/or insecure people to thrive behind a badge, putting the reputation of the vast majority of police, who are decent and brave men and women, at risk. Often, the same officials who follow political agendas refuse to defend officers when it counts.
In the English speaking world especially there is an atavistic fear of police becoming an “army,” which is why England resisted properly organized police forces until well into the 1800s, and why the United States never had a national police service. Increased official misuse of the police for social and political control increasingly makes some police look like “occupying armies” and distances them from the people they are sworn to serve and protect.
So, I am saying we have to wake up America!
This is exactly what we see happening in Utah and all over America.
Americans have to put aside their fear of each other and quit listening to the fear mongers who destroy liberty and blatantly ignore Federal and State Constitutions, becoming a law unto themselves simply to promote their own political agendas while financially raping their neighbors and constituents.
When will you and I stand up to these political bullies and demand that they obey the laws they have sworn to uphold?
Quit being faithless wimps and sissies. People no different than you showed the concern for human rights and the courage to stand up to political bullies and their armies so that you could enjoy liberty.
Now you will toss it all away because you are afraid to stick up for yourself and you seek special privileges at the expense of the rights of your neighbor.
Where is America?
Where are the people who will support and sustain the Constitution and the Freedom, Liberty and Human Rights it protects?
Are you one of those who will stand idly by and watch while your neighbor is abused by fascist cops and politicians?
Are you going to be wondering why no one will help you when you are the victim of such abuse?
Are you sustaining the Constitution or just crapping on it?

Brain: Playing with Your Food
Food presentation can play mind games, subtly encouraging us to eat more.
By: Richard Lovett
Marcus Lillkvist stared at his plate in shock. “I’d read about these American portion sizes,” he said in disbelief. “That’s not a burrito—it’s a log.” Lillkvist, a Swede on his first trip to the U.S., then did a very un—American thing: He put down his fork and pronounced himself satiated.
A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that our food consumption has increased by 500 calories per day. Partly, that’s a side effect of plenty: Confronted by giant bags of popcorn, groaning buffet tables or easy-to-reach cookie jars, we readily overindulge. Brian Wansink, director of the University of Illinois’ Food and Brand Laboratory, has found many factors that fake us into overeating.
People who drink from short, fat glasses drink twice as much as those who use tall, slender glasses—even when the glasses hold the same volume.
Do you live for Chocolate Fudge Death by Decadence Torte? People rate desserts with dramatic names higher than simple “chocolate cake,” even if the two are identical.
Putting food out of reach can ease temptation, but mindfulness is still in order. In offices with Hershey’s Kisses, workers who had to get out of their chairs to reach the candy bowl made fewer trips for treats. But they didn’t realize that once at the candy bowl, they tended to grab two or three Kisses, rather than just one.
Wansink gave people bowls of jelly beans with either four or six different colors—all of which tasted the same. People with only four “flavors” to choose from ate 40 percent less than those with six options.
When multiple flavors of jelly beans were served in a single bowl, the illusion of greater diversity caused people to eat nearly twice as many as when the same beans were served in separate bowls.
Most people are still gaining about a pound or two per year—the equivalent of a mere 10 or 20 calories per day. One solution is to make dramatic lifestyle changes in an effort to lose weight. “But another approach would be to modify your personal environment in a way that makes eating decisions brainless,” says Wansink, who has thrown away all of his short, fat drinking glasses. “Let your environment work for you, rather than against you. These studies show that small factors make a big difference,” he says.

Congratulations to our tattoo winners! All monies go to pay Shandi’s attorney. Thanks so much to everyone who participated. We are thinking of more ways to say thanks to our supporters - coming soon! Very soon!
Also,I (Doc) went to court May 2 and got another postponement till June 18th in American Fork. I told my atty. that I wanted a complete withdrawal of the charges, a clean record and a formal apology. He told me it might be hard to get the formal apology. Since in Utah, most people are not sorry for hurting people, they are only sorry for getting caught hurting people.
Anyway, I am confident that American Fork will soon notice how utterly and irredeemably stupid they have been. Since they nearly never admit to error, it is likely they will just get more stupid. Oh well.
It looks like the County has finally read their own investigation on Shandi’s 4 2nd degree felony charges and realized they have no case. Perhaps they even noticed that Shandi was supporting the interests of the offended parent and the community at large and that it is the snot nosed kids and their snot nosed parents that are the problem and a blight on our community while people like Shandi are an invaluable and undeserved asset they should praise God to have the association of.
Anyway, it now seems that instead of threatening her with the death sentence (no really, just 20 years in prison and at least 50 Thousand Dollars in fines) they are leaning toward completely withdrawing the complaint against her.
Of course we still have to pay off the $4,000 attorney, speaking of which, I want to thank the 98 people who entered the tattoo raffle. It raised $490 toward attorney fees. We still have about 4 payments of $500 each to come up with so please feel free to help and/or participate in upcoming fund raising events.
We are trying to work on having Sunday meetings (with a drum circle) in the AF Library Park or at the park on 3rd east just north of State (around the corner from the studio). We will be sure to publish the details but we are planning on starting in a week or two and continuing through the summer.
Today was a great day in the studio. We got to see a lot of our old friends and make several new ones.
We hope you will come in to say hi and bring your friends for the best art and best service in Utah.
Thanks again,
Doc

Kita and I got back to Utah from our Detroit trip Saturday.
We had a good visit and got our leaves raked - that took almost a week(!), visited with our kids and grandkids and parents, siblings and students. Our favorite restaurant in the world finally opened their new location which is walking distance from our house in Ferndale, so that was exciting. I’ll write more about Anita’s Kitchen later.
Today is the last day to enter the raffle to win one of 4 (up to) $200 tattoos. All the proceeds are going to pay Shandi’s attorney.
Typical to Utah, there are not many entries, so if you’d like to help Shandi, now would be a good time and the odds of winning are very good.
The prosecutor in her case is already offering a deferment but we are hoping Shandi will feel courageous enough to refuse it and demand they prove their charges in a jury trial. She and her family have suffered a lot due to the stress of these last few months since “the raid”. Her preliminary hearing is May 13 in Provo District Court, but it will be mostly just an attorney to attorney meeting to work out a deal to avoid having to prove the charges. So we hope she tells her attorney to tell the prosecutor to drop the charges completely or prove them in open court.
I go back to court May 2 - this Friday in American Fork District Court. This will also be a preliminary hearing where the attorneys dicker about with each other and not a trial.
I intend to insist on a complete withdrawal of the charges with a formal apology, after which I intend to sue their anti-American, neo-fascist asses off - or of course they can try to prove their charges in court, after which I will sue their anti-American, neo-fascist asses off.
Unfortunately, all this suing will require more attorneys and attorney fees. I hope someone will agree to take our case on contingency. Any recommendations on “meat-grinder” type attorneys would be appreciated.
While we are getting the typical apathetic, Utah support, we do want to share our great appreciation for those few brave souls who have put their hearts, money and time where their mouths are for us. So far we are getting about equal support from outside Utah as from inside, which I think just reflects the reality of the sad state of social and religious oppression in Utah.
The “Zion Curtain” is very strong here and only the most titillating news escapes Utah’s borders. Sadly, since our news doesn’t involve, child rape, murder or psycho pedophile prophets, we don’t seem to merit the attention of the news servers like the Associated Press, who told me that if we weren’t a gun toting, polygamous offshoot of the Mormon Church, he wasn’t interested, but if a bloody massacre ensued to call him back! News, that makes Utah Government look bad, just doesn’t escape the Utah border, while inside Utah Government abuse of the citizenry is just seen as “ho hum” business as usual.
So, if you are outside Utah, please call your local media and ask them to visit this site and cover our story.
Utah only takes appropriate action when people outside Utah show their disapproval.

We got a phone call yesterday from our daughter letting us know that the my parents 50th anniversary party was moved up two weeks and that we need to be there soon. Between traveling and not having internet in Michigan (unless we go to the coffee house) posts here are going to get few and far between for two weeks.
Also Shandi’s arraignment is this Tuesday in Provo at 2:00PM. I’m not sure what room, so call the shop if you want to be there. We will be closed all day on Tuesday.
She sure could use some support. This is a frightening experience for her.

MADISON — A Tomah High School student has filed a federal lawsuit alleging his art teacher censored his drawing because it featured a cross and a biblical reference.
The lawsuit alleges other students were allowed to draw “demonic” images and asks a judge to declare a class policy prohibiting religion in art unconstitutional.
“We hear so much today about tolerance,” said David Cortman, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal advocacy group representing the student. “But where is the tolerance for religious beliefs? The whole purpose of art is to reflect your own personal experience. To tell a student his religious beliefs can legally be censored sends the wrong message.”
Tomah School District Business Manager Greg Gaarder said the district hadn’t seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.
According to the lawsuit, the student’s art teacher asked his class in February to draw landscapes. The student, a senior identified in the lawsuit by the initials A.P., added a cross and the words “John 3:16 A sign of peace” in his drawing.
His teacher, Julie Millin, asked him to remove the reference to the Bible, saying students were making remarks about it. He refused, and she gave him a zero on the project.
Millin showed the student a policy for the class that prohibited any violence, blood, sexual connotations or religious beliefs in artwork. The lawsuit claims Millin told the boy he had signed away his constitutional rights when he signed the policy at the beginning of the semester.
The boy tore the policy up in front of Millin, who kicked him out of class. Later that day, assistant principal Cale Jackson told the boy his religious expression infringed on other students’ rights.
Jackson told the boy, his stepfather and his pastor at a meeting a week later that religious expression could be legally censored in class assignments. Millin stated at the meeting the cross in the drawing also infringed on other students’ rights.
The boy received two detentions for tearing up the policy. Jackson referred questions about the lawsuit to Gaarder.
Sometime after that meeting, the boy’s metals teacher rejected his idea to build a chain-mail cross, telling him it was religious and could offend someone, the lawsuit claims. The boy decided in March to shelve plans to make a pin with the words “pray” and “praise” on it because he was afraid he’d get a zero for a grade.
The lawsuit also alleges school officials allow other religious items and artwork to be displayed on campus.
A Buddha and Hindu figurines are on display in a social studies classroom, the lawsuit claims, adding the teacher passionately teaches Hindu to students.
In addition, a replica of Michaelangelo’s “The Creation of Man” is displayed at the school’s entrance, a picture of a six-limbed Hindu woman is in the school’s hallway and a drawing of a robed sorcerer hangs on a hallway bulletin board.
Drawings of Medusa, the Grim Reaper with a scythe and a being with a horned head and protruding tongue hang in the art room and demonic masks are displayed in the metals room, the lawsuit alleges.
A.P. suffered unequal treatment because of his religion even though student expression is protected by the First Amendment, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Friday.
“Students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate,” the lawsuit said. “No compelling state interest exists to justify the censorship of A.P.’s religious expression.”
